I just pulled the trigger on this 16ga/7X57R Fortuna (Simson-Merkel). It will be a good knockabout gun and loaner within the family It was at a price I couldn't turn down. These are very solid guns and weigh a bit more than the Sauer drillings. This will be a good candidate for a 7X57R right barrel insert someday...maybe.

That looks interesting. What does one of these cost?

I was wondering the same thing

Depends. I have a Meffert drilling in 16 X 16 over 7 X 57 with a Dural receiver I paid $1100 for 20-25 years ago. My most recent was a bit less than 2K. They can go fairly high, up to around 4K, depending on maker and condition. Sometimes a fella can get lucky and find one the seller needs to move or maybe doesn't know or care about what it's worth and one can pick it up worth the money. Generally one like luv shows is in the $2500 range. Simpsons Ltd. in Galesburg, Illinois often has a pretty fair selection of drillings running the gamut of price....and condition.
