Anyone know what fits? I tried one from an H&R Handi-Rifle but it didn't fit.

I have a universal Carlson's one due in tomorrow. Hopefully it works....

Carlson's 00110 fits, now just to make sure it shoots...

What version of the 24F do you have?

I have a 22H/20 and a 223/20..

If you like Savage 24s, you might like Marshall Stanton's piece in the TECH NOTES section at www.beartoothbullets.com

I have the 22 Hornet/20 gauge

Dumb question here, but I had to ask, is there a 24 in 30-30 over 20 gauge? I would like to put a hammer extension on one. TIA Rusty.

Yes they made a 30/30 over 20 gauge and 30/30 over 12 gauge.

sometimes the added weight of the hammer extension will made the firing pin strike to light to fire off a round.

that is BS. you had other troubles, the added weight to the hammer would make it hit harder..

I have 13 Savage 24s, many of which have or have had hammer extensions on them. I don't recall ever having a failure to fire.

Thank you for explaining it to him..

The extra weight can slow the hammer causing misfires. I've not had the issue but have heard of it. Heavier isn't necessarily better.

24's often have light strike issues in and of themselves. A borderline gun could probably be changed just enough with an extension to push it over the line.

There are some that alter hammer springs to make them easier to cock and that could cause a misfire. you don't know what has been done to a used gun that you bought. I have had trouble with that and repair was only to replace the hammer spring to original condition...
