Saw a weather report earlier where Somewhere in Australia was getting some Tennis Ball size Hail!

Is this True?

GOD's must be a tennis fan and the large hail is his payback for the Australian Government not letting Djokovic play in the Australian Tennis Open.

Back in the mid-1990s we had a storm with large hail, some as big as softballs, that really screwed up the roof and the cars that it hit. A couple of hits with that large hail is an insurance adjuster's nightmare.
Yeah, that's crazy!

Yes, west of Brisbane. It happens from time to time, and the geological features and weather patterns make some areas more prone to this type of event, but isn't that also the case around the world?
Yeah, it is!

Why is it hailstones are always the size of something else?

Because it sounds better than saying "big a$$ed" hail.

Because an American will say they are 2/9ths of a foot across,

and

the rest of the world will go W T F? How many centimetres is that?

And the American will go..."You and your nancy socialist metric [bleep]. Real men measure in strange fractions of an olde english measurement. We won the revolution dammit! But we kept their archaic measurement system."

Yeah, and a conversion to metric will have too many decimal places

You're not wrong...

I'm used to both systems, since I've spent my career in manufacturing. I much prefer metric these days for everything except temperature. I do prefer our scale there because of the smaller increments, even if the scale itself is bizarre.
