So I clean house on the last of our beans, then the price runs up! laugh

That's the way it works!

I hit selling the calves just right this year.

Don't know how, but I did...

For some reason I always seem to buy high and sell low.

A person could get rich doing the exact opposite of everything I do.

Wish I could sell it all, I am still sitting on 15 tons of bass that should have been sold three months ago. And if they don’t start opening some restaurants, it looks like we’ll sit on them a little while longer.....
I cleaned out the remainder of my beans and held them on DP then chickened out and took 9.71
I'll be happy with that as 3 months ago I was begging for 8.20..

Dutch,
Are they size limited like pork or poultry?
Can you limit food to limit growth and maintain a good product while
being humane?

Is there a limit to how long you could sit on them until it would be best to just dispose
of them?

Just curious, as I know nothing about fish.
Except you put them in water and feed them.

It's simple being a farmer!
At least I think I heard that once. wink

Lol, you bet, just add water!

Yes, they can get too big, I start getting complaints when they get much bigger than 2.5 lbs from my retail customers. Fortunately, that’s about where the pond stocking guys start getting excited, so I can bleed some product off into that market. I’m not quite there yet, and don’t really think I’ll get there. The way we grow fish (geothermal water), we can just turn off the heat and feed consumption and growth both drop. Withholding feed from bass is not a winning strategy, if they get hungry, they’ll eat SOMETHING, including their brother......

Biggest problem with slowing them down, besides cash flow, is that I need the space for the next crop. Not much money in warehousing fish.....

Understand the pause in cash flow.

Hadn't considered being able to cool them off.
How's that work? You able to tap a hot spring?

At least it's not like chickens where it's sell or lose them.

Yup, well not technically, since it is 83 degrees, and it needs to be 85 to legally be considered a “geothermal” resource. But there’s 1,500 gallons a minute coming out of the ground at 83 degrees, year round. Grows a bunch of fish. One of the benefits of growing cold blooded animals is to put them on “pause” just by lowering temperature (and being able to lower temperature).

That's the way I do it.

It's my tax loophole. smile

Beans over ten bucks! laugh
Posted By: muleshoe Re: Sell all the crop, and. - 10/11/20
I sold 3 loads on Friday, they'll go up another buck now.
Posted By: wabigoon Re: Sell all the crop, and. - 10/12/20
Down 29 now.
Posted By: muleshoe Re: Sell all the crop, and. - 10/14/20
The 3 loads I sold were for Jan. Might should've sold everything at that price.

Looks like the fish market is picking up. Several growers seem to have dropped the ball, leaving some room for the rest of us. “Good things come to those who wait”.
