They are a lot of trouble for sure. We just got this bull in and treated for pinkeye.

Hate to see pink eye in a herd.

Hate seeing cancer eyed cattle even worse.
Spray, and antibiotic. We hope it clears up.

down here their is a lot of cancer on white face cows in the eyes is that the same as what you have ? RBB
I’ve heard of it in piebald horses and blue eyed horses. Glad we are where we are with two w blue eyes.
Wabi
Not easier/cheaper to go AI? More genetic choice too, it seems.
Not at all iron Mike!

There is a higher instance of that in Herefords.

The guy I get my bulls from has been breeding for many years, and developing bulls with brown circles around their eyes. That pigment around eyes keeps the cancer eye at bay much better, by not having the sun damage pink skin gets, and is a sought after genetic trait.

You want your Hereford bulls to look like a coon around the eyes. wink

That doesn't look like much fun Richard.

We had more pinkeye this summer than we've had in years. Not sure why.....
I hope it clears up. Jake sprayed it, and the bull got 50 ml of 300 Pro LA.
That oughta fix it if anything will.
That eye looked the same this morning, but, it's only been 12 hours.
Weird year for us in PA with pinkeye. Lots of flies but we didn't have an issue with pinkeye even during the summer. 2 weeks ago I noticed a feeder calf with watery eye... So much for getting through the year without an issue...
We had the vet down today to sew it shut. [Linked Image from i.imgur.com]
I've heard that some ranchers are making an eye patch, and gluing it on with Liquid Nails...

I'd probably let the vet handle it too, though.
Barry, we have glued patches on. With this bull we wanted to done proper, and along with antibiotics, sewing the lid is how they do it.

Yeah, I know my vet would do it that way.

Since we didn't want to use a full dose of antibiotics on dairy cows if we didn't have to, 1 cc of penicillin under the third eyelid would clear it right up with one dose.

Worked like a charm.
