That's pretty much what I do.

Iron Algae, plastics pipe is a lot better than the old iron pipe.

You can open plumbing with compressed air.
Sometimes, the opening won't be where you expected.
Usually works though.

I have also sucked clogs out with a shop vac.
Stinky when you get the sewer gas coming through,
I guess it could flash. Never heard of it though.

Saw our maintenance guy sucking the spilled fuels and water out of the gas hole
dumps at a station with a shop vac.

Mentioned the fumes going through the motor.
His eyes got big and he quit.
Next time he had a little pump!

I have to blow out the water trough system at my windmill periodically.

Hard water scale and algae, and some moss usually.

Use the compressor mounted on my pickup. Seal off the air valve with a few wraps of inner tube, and get a decent seal.

I'd like to use a pig inside, but I think pipes are too crooked to work.

Barry, I got a couple of those pipe fittings that have a rubber sleeve and nut on top. You slip them into the pipe and turn the nut to expand the rubber against the inside of the pipe. I adapted that fitting with brass fittings to adapt to an air hose. One has a tire valve stem on top and I use a inflator to blow out obstructions. Another I have adapted a male quick couple on. Just plug the hose into that one. I only use it for blowing out the pipeline to winterize it, as I can open valves on the various runs to get each blowed out.

Our windmill pipes going to our tanks, get clogged with algae, or critters mostly toads or frogs, we use a compressor, and a rag to blast them out, most of our pipe is inline, no elbows. Rio7

If the clog is stubborn and you have a power washer you can buy a 100' of hose with nozzles that shoot water under pressure both sideways and backwards. The pressure walks the hose right up the pipe. We use them if the sewer line gets plugged. Easy to go down a cleanout and you can go up the pipe from the septic tank if your inlet is working properly. It works well to remove plugs although I am not sure how small a pipe it will fit in. Probably 3/4" is okay. Once the plug or clog is gone then you can blow it out with compressed air.

They make other nozzles that shoot forward and one that will shoot water sideways.

For some reason the cows seem to want water out there...

I use a water hose spigot female connector on about a 6 ft piece of air hose. That lets me connect to any water spigot without taking any pipes loose. It works well for me, but I'm just blowing water out of the lines so they don't freeze in the winter out at the garden.
