The crocked things last a long time, I'm thinking of trying buy some.
Any ideas as to were?
John, I sure some are, and honeysuckle.
I received a call, 6.50 for a 3 1/2"x 6' line post. The rub is they are in Kansas.
That sounds like it would be o.o.
Down here when you mention hedge posts we always think Osage orange.
Yeah, KS would be Osage orange
I got the honeysuckle idea somewhere?
I've never seen a fresh one. I'm told you can drive a staple in the softwood when they are new, but I know for a fact on old post is hard as iron.
Osage Orange or Hedge.
Same thing.
JMO, I would rather use steel than a hedge post that size.
Hedge is commonly used here for corners/braces posts. A line hedge post is typically put in the line one between every 3 -5 steel posts. But size would be more like 4-5" top and 7.5- 8' minimum length.
Sorry I can't report current prices, but I know posts have went up a lot lately. Some guys are making H-braces out of pipe.
Post are like hay- price is not enough if you're selling, too high if you're buying.

Try contacting some implement dealers and co-ops down here in MO. and see if they know anyone selling hedge posts. There's a Dutch owned farm and home store on C highway between Versailles and Eldon and would imagine that they would know if anyone in their community was selling hedge.... sorry that I can't give you a phone number.
I have hedge all over my place. That and a ton of Locust trees. If i had more time I would cut everyone of them down.
I have Hedge post that have been in the ground for 50 or 60 yrs and still solid as a rock.
Miles of very large hedge fence rows , Lawrence & Dade counties MO .
Hedge never rots. Just kind of evaporates , gets smaller
Around here say a 20" post will last 40+ years
Our neighbor has some as old as I am, 77.
Still some hedge posts on my great grandpas place. Fence was built in the 1920s.
Posts are harder than a weddin dick!

Why do you think they call it iron wood down south? Lolol
One of the posts.
That post is being wasted as a mere post. It really needs to be part of a "gate".
Was at our family farm in Ks two weeks ago, helping my brother put in a new half mile of barb wire fence. He used pipe and sucker rod posts. While there, I saw the hedge post fence that I helped our dad install in the early 1960s. It’s still in good shape.
Richard,
My Ggrandfather and Ggrandmother out at the old family place south of town. Circa 1925. The piers are bois d’arc as they are called here. Texian pronounced "bodark" 😊
There are some on my brother-in-law’ s that his grandfather put in when their house was built in 1903.
Cedar here.......$8-9 a post
12" at the base & 8' long
A good hedge post will wear out two post holes.
20 years ago there was a big post dealer between near Yates Center, KS right on US75. Haven’t been through there since moving to Missour. There were always semis there loading and unloading. Everything from line posts to massive corners.
Thanks Cheesy, I talked to them, he is getting back on delivery.
