I just recently got fired from my Job as a tractor trailer driver. We had cameras in the truck that record us while we drove. I got sick of my company calling to complain about my driving so I turned off the camera from inside the truck. Work found out and fired me.

Now that I have some time on my hands I was thinking about doing a work exchange program in Hawaii. Has anyone ever done one of these programs where you work for a person in another state for a few weeks and they give you a place to stay?

Let me try to understand this . . .

As a driver you represent your employer to the public.
As a driver your abilities affect the companies safety record and insurance rates.
You and your driving skills are recorded.
Company KEEPS calling to discuss your driving skills.
You turned off the companies onboard camera.
They fired you.

Who would want to have you as their work exchange person?

Yeah that was kind of my thoughts as well. I have carried a CDL for more than 20 years. Not going to do anything that will put my license at risk.

Wow!

Sometimes you can almost guess who is HR and who works.

I am so glad I'm out of the driving game today.
Cameras focused out the window, and on the driver.
If you put in one day and 500 miles in heavy traffic,
You will be involved in at least 1 incident that would
be of interest to HR/safety.

If it causes you to hit the brakes, if you hit a bump, the cameras
record before/during/after. If a car cut you off, the camera records
it as a car in front of you and a panic brake. If you were drinking,
or just looking at a phone screen to see if you had a call,
You could have several infractions.

Spent 5 years driving for a company I felt wanted to fire everyone.
Did me. Was an on road trainer, worked the safety dept in house too.
Was the guy who did check rides on other drivers.
They didn't like guys in the top of pay scale.
When they got an excuse, I went.

Replaced by someone from their training school.
Subsidized in a job creation program.
Wasn't Swift, but the ran the same type scams Swift got in trouble for.
