One of my Pygmy goats kidded last night. Her first batch. Now the little buggers are bawling for milk, but keep nuzzling in all the wrong spots. I’ve tried to put them right on the teat itself, but then they balk. Any recommendations? I do have goat’s milk and some colostrum additive if needed, but really don’t want to get them accustomed to being bottle fed.
Use one hand from behind the doe and lift the udder/teat so it is in the mouth area of the kid. If you try to force the kid to suck, it won't work.
What Tater said. You might try to squirt some milk on the kid's nose when it gets close.
Let us know.
Dont know about goats, but I've seen calves do the same thing. They'll figure it out, at least the calves did.

Nature is pretty resilient.
