The loggers came through and left an expected mess. I have a couple of large slash piles to burn later. I'm thinking of getting a chipper I can move through the logged area to chip branches, brush and stuff rather than stack and burn. I have zero experience with chippers and I'm wondering if a PTO chippers would be any handier than a stand alone DR type. My tractor has 19hp at the PTO. Thanks

Do you have a tool rental place where you can rent an industrial chipper? When we cleared our lot I rented a 4" industrial chipper, it was wealth worth renting a full size chipper as you can run a semi truck sized pile of alders through one in a day if you have three people to feed it.



Looking at the PTO driven chippers, they appear to be much smaller machines.

I think for the occasional fall pruning a small chipper has it's place, but if clearing significant slash piles I'd think you'd be better off renting a larger machine.

Reminds me of the movie Fargo for some reason...

Paul, I looked into renting, but with the amount of acreage I would like to chip the rental would pay for a decent chipper. I most likely will chip just a few acres around the house. I like walking in the woods without having to step over a lot of debris. Also, I do not have all of that teenaged horsepower around you have

If you're dealing with chipping acres, then get at least a 6" chipper.

I've got a Wallenstein BX62. I'm very happy with it.

Since my purchase, a new model/company has come on the scene. I just got their stump grinder and am very impressed with everything about it and their company.

They have hydraulic feed and are less expensive than the Wallenstein (which I still am very happy with).
