[Linked Image][Linked Image][Linked Image][Linked Image][Linked Image][Linked Image][img]https://i.imgur.com/6L2eHbw.jpg[/img][img]https://i.imgur.com/juMwsKv.jpg[/img]her is my cabin me and my brother built, he is the master I am the grunt. it is next to the Edisto river in SC the longest black water river in the USA in fact the beams and the inside barn doors came from the river in the form of axe cut old pecky cypress long forgotten. my brother collected the old logs from the river and cut them on his saw mill. the cedar post on the front and back porch was cut by him also. I love the 1930s gas stove, it cooks like a dream. the cabin is only 720 sq. ft. inside but it is plenty for me and my wife.

Now you just need one small addition: a 2500 sqft shop out back.

Veeeery nice! Some major skills looks to have came into play on the project... Just curious, what is the reason for the double pitch on the roof? Is there storage up there?....again, darn fine job.

Agreed but it looks new enough that you might be able to change the swing.

I love that cabin, would like to have it sitting in the middle of no where beside a stream, the only person I would care about seeing would be my wife. Heck I wouldn't even have to have a TV.

I know a guy, he was married to my cousin once, built his own log cabin back in the 1980's. He can do about anything, wood working, blacksmith, pipe fitter, could fabricate things out of metal that amazed me.

Darla, you need to get DH to build you a LOVE-NEST like that!

rockinbbar,

Actually, Tex (that he & one of his boarding-school chums designed) has a different project in mind. - A 2-story, 22x48 foot "townhouse on a raft"/houseboat, to retire upon & that will be "home ported" near Aransas Pass, TX.
(Tex is about half fish & has wanted for years to live on the water.)

He started thinking about/designing the houseboat (years before we met) when he was last stationed overseas with the Army & is now in "the materials gathering stage" for his "big idea". - For example, he's bought a Cummins diesel engine, marine transmission, shaft & propeller for the PRINCESS ETERNAL & has "squirreled-away" the windows/doors & some other needed parts for the boat.
(The "raft" under the townhouse will be 28x60 feet. He plans to use solar panels for electrical power, with a small diesel "back-up" generator.)

Sincerely, DarlaG
