Need some more covered and even some enclosed area...

Having a steel barn put in Friday.

Been busy making the pad with caliche base and washed rock top coat.

Lots more work than when you first figure it...




Had to clear the area, level it, haul base in, level that and roll it in, then haul the washed rock in and level it...

Had two good sized oaks I had to cut, and then get the stumps below grade level as well.

Hope the finished product looks okay and lasts awhile.

I'll post a pic after the builders leave.

Seems like a good use for a dump trailer!

Having a pad ready for a building is no small thing. When Jake, and I built his shed ten years ago the dirt work, and hauling for the pad was $6000 with dirt off the farm.

Hope they don't have to set a post on top of one of those oak stumps.

36' wide by 26' deep w/ 12' wide x 26' garage with roll up shop type door, walk in door and two windows.

Main part of the barn is drive through for tractors, etc.

Yeah, it's expensive here too. Luckily, I had some extra material from when I resurfaced my road coming into the ranch here, and it was close enough to use my loader bucket to place it.




Yeah, I positioned it so that the two stump areas were interior to any bearing wall structure.

Sounds nice. I need something like that.

The new barn is in addition to the first one I added a few years ago. It tends to get crowded... Keeping my welding trailer in that one only leaves room for one tractor.

That will be nice, Barry. Always use another barn/shed. When I get thru with the house, I've got to do something. Probably build another barn, but enclose part of it for a shop. Always cheaper to build than to buy.

The guys had to deal with wind gusts up to 40mph. With sheet metal that can get interesting...

I built my shop 30x40.

I was working offshore at the time. 2 and 2.

Took about 6 months from slab to putting up the last tin.

Except for the slab, my dad and i did everything.

Since then we’ve built a 28’x40’ drop shed on one side.

Glad they are done!

Some posts driven, and there are 12 3 foot auger anchors as well.

Just a compacted road base pad with washed rock on top for the pad. No concrete.

My main shop here at the house has concrete floors. The one above was just to park tractors and ATV's, riding lawn mower, etc.

Maybe skin a deer under it, and such.

Bunch of styles came up via the googler. Main walls cabled to them?

I don't know what Barry used, we have some the are short augers on the end, you screw them in.

Bolted to them.

They had a neat machine for screwing those into the ground. It was a BIG electric motor that was geared real slow. Had lots of torque. They had to brace the motor end to a post, or it would have just spun the two guys around holding it.

About a foot down here, you run into a real hard clay. I've twisted off many shear bolts digging post holes with my tractor PHD when I hit that clay.

There is an outfit here (Homer I think) that does screw-in pilings for cabins.

Guy anchors are a must for out buildings without secured foundations.

Roundoak, when you got to move the outhouse...... I see you unscrew the bracket from the wall, but what about the anchor? And, is that a cement slab I see? How do you move it?

Got a new barn, so I gotta shop for a new star to decorate it with...

Already got the garage part partially filled. Had to get wifey a new golf cart a few weeks ago... She'd rather walk than get in my Mule and drive anywhere... She just won't drive it.

At least I can have my whole parking spot back now that the cart is in the garage...

Reverse screw the anchors to remove. No cement slab, sill plates screwed to treated 4"x4".

To move, slide skid loader tines underneath.

Come Halloween, any kids lookin to tip that outhouse over best carry tools!

Buster?

Ed, sadly, we lost Buster a few months back.

That grey one is Buster's much younger brother, Bandit. He's not quite 4 years old.

He looks and acts just like Buster though.

The black one is a Giant Schnauzer female I got from some folks who were in over their head with her. She's Bailey. Turning out to be a good dog too. She just needed a bit of training and attention.
