So my son started fishing with me when he was just out of diapers.... he really took to it, learned to tie his own knots and cast a bait caster by 5 years old. I have taken him with me as my partner in some local team bass tournaments and we recently joined the local youth club. It's mostly high school kids but they have a junior division for the younger kids..... so far this year after 3 tournaments he and his partner have finished 4th, first place, and just this last weekend 3rd place.

The high school team has a lot of support and kids are stating to get scholarships for college so I'm hopeful he sticks with it.....here are some recent pics from last weekend at Lake Shasta, Ca.....

In this case they are forging a partnership that will last a lifetime. And even beyond that in future generations of youngsters in that family. Great job dad!

Good to see him as an avid fisherman. Never liked the idea though of turning it into a competitive deal. Such would take the fun out of it in my case. I savor fishing, especially for PNW steelhead, but only at my selected pace.

Yes indeed! I'd like to see PFD's
Posted By: 1minute Re: Braggin on my boy - 02/03/23
Yes. Absolutely required for kids in this state.

My kid once popped his off just as our bow hit the bank beside a LEO who had his back turned. Got an unwarranted 20-minute ass chewing when he turned around insisting, he had watched us come down river.

I'm not talking just the kids, adults drown too.

Maybe you could start a thread on wearing life jackets, you’re pretty good at that!

He's shaping up to be a good fisherman, more kids need to be like him.

"Who here wears a PFD while taking a bath?" grin

What? You don’t need a pfd, you need to stay off the sauce, it is worse for you than water.

If I wanted your opinion I'd ask for it.....They are always worn when underway as the law says.... the kids wear them about 90% of the time but they do ask to take them off every once in awhile when it warms up. If it's calm and safe I let them. Shouldn't have to explain it to you're dumb ass though.

That’s awesome that your son has taken to fishing
Like that. Congratulations to the young man and his fishing partner doing well in the tournaments.

I think this is a great post
It seems like there are lots of guys out with their buds fishing tournaments while the kids are home playing video games

I love to see Dads and Daughters and Sons out fishing and hunting
My Daughter and I share lots of cool memories and always plan for more with my Son in Law now

Very nice hardway!

It's great dads like you that raise the next generation of fishermen, fisherwomen, and hunters.

Lucky kids if you ask me :o)

Great pics. Love seeing Shasta getting some water in it. I grew up in Redding and spent a lot of time on the lake.

Hell ya!! Happy kiddo, great hobby. Nice work 👊🏻

Great stuff! Get him started posting some YouTube videos and what he doesn't get in scholarships, he'll be able to pay with his dividends from the videos! Some kids are making big bank!
