I'm in the market for a two piece casting rod that will be used primarily for musky fishing. It's pretty tough to haul around a long fishing rod

Look into salmon and steelhead rods. Lamiglas and Okuma make some inexpensive options that are quite good. If they can handle salmon, they can handle muskies. Many lures, especially spinners/spoons/plugs are basically the same between the species.

I’ve got a pair of st. Croix avid series rods. One medium heavy and one heavy. They are 8’ if memory serves. My favorites ever for that purpose.
St. Croix takes care of me as a guide otherwise I’d give a hard look at anything Okuma. Terrific rods for the valu. Their reels are t really good as well.

For muskie casting, you want a long butt handle. Even though I'm not using them for muskies, I bought several Tackle Industries rods and they have worked out great. They are available in one or two piece.

Only problem is they are made for smaller lures and can’t handle larger ones for Muskie

Look at savage gear rods. I have a 8ft xxh one and holds up to lures and muskies great.

Here in Alaska we have salmon rods galore but I use the Tackle Industries Musky Rods because some of my lake trout lures weigh 11 oz.

An 8” 15-40# rod rated for 1-8oz? I’ve been undergunned I guess.

For lures like these you would. The line thru is 24oz would snap your rod on a back cast.





To just bring in a Muskie no. Noodle rods can bring in a Muskie.

Go on youtube and watch the Muskie fishermen cast......thousands of casts a day with heavy lures......

This is a 4 piece rod I bought to take with me to take down to Panama when I go fishing. No problem handling 40 lb tuna and almaco jacks. Travel rod

That rod is far from a “noodle rod”. Yeah, 10’ float rods are soft. The rod I mention isn’t a float rod.
