Looking to have the cork grip on a vintage spinning rod replaced, the rod has more sentimental value than monetary. Anyone here on the forum that can re-grip the rod ?
BTT
I don't know how much you're willing to spend but look up Triple Threat Rods in Sedalia, MO.
A small 3 man shop that does great work. They do quite a few rebuilds of rods with sentimental value.
The epoxied corn cob handles are nice.
I do build rods and might be willing to do a repair. Are you looking to replicate the existing handle or just get something similar that is functional and decent looking. I don't make my own handle but a lot of builders do. I am limited to premade designs. There is a vast selection.

Is rod one piece or two? Shipping a properly packed blank can get pricy on a long one piece rod. If it is two piece you could just ship the handle section.

A average premade handle assembly with a basic realseat for say medium action spinning rod is going to run around 30 to 40 bucks. Maybe an hour to hour and a half to strip the old grip and fit the new one and glue it up. No idea what a fulltime builder would typically charge. I guess any craftsman is going to value his time at around fifty bucks an hour at least.

Most builders have websites just search custom rodbuilders in your state.

If you don't need the handle replicated exactly message me so I can get some pics of what you got and I will see if it is something I might be willing to tackle.
Mike would there be any way to build me a new front section of a two piece trolling rod? I left it with a buddy who did some rod repair to have a new guide put on and he died on me. Pretty sure his kids tossed everything and now all I have is half a trolling rod.
It can be done. But a pain to do. Getting a top section to match up takes a lot of work. You would be better off finding a fulltime custom builder. They typically will have a lot more pieces in house to work with and try to match something up. Unless the rod is something special you would be better off buying new.
