110 Sierra HP, 49 gr IMR 4064. Was a very accurate 100 yard load out of my two groove Remington.

130 Hornady SP over 59 gr. Big Game, Fed 210 primer at around 3,100 fps is a killer.

My bud used that load in this '03 last season. Lots of one shot kills. That bullet will exit a WT and does leave a path of tissue damage between holes. Hard on 'yotes and hogs.

4 groove Springfield, '42 vintage.

I loaded up 48.4 of Varget under a 150 grain Sierra soft point and found them to be very accurate out of my 1943 2 groove military barrel.

When I had one it loved the old Hornady 220 RN. I don't remember the powder or charge but it shot very well.

Heard and read more than a few references of guys using the old 220 rn in the 30-40 & 30-06 for the last 50 years. Damned if I am not going to try them myself,I've allways wondered if a guy could drive one thru the brisket and out the a*shole with a perfect head on shot. MB

More comfortable with his trusty .460 wabbit gun, no doubt.

New Mexico evidently has some really tough, hard to stop jackwabbits...

So far the 220s are the most accurate out of my sporterized Remington M1917. It has the original GI barrel, and for some reason it needs more bullet to engage the rifling. I have some RN 180s ready to try when the weather cools down. The 220s do kick a little bit more if you crank them up.

Reiver, I don't have a 1917 rem but one in an Eddystone that's had some real rough sporterizing.the guy got the D & T job done perfect and didn't whack the barrel off so it is still the full 26". Haven't tried yet but I'll bet 2600 fps is doable with 220's maybe more with 208 Hornady's. MB

My Springfields like H4895 & 180 grain interlocks (corelocks before that)
I had one that liked 130 grain Speers.

here's a good load for an 03 - that's H4895 BTW

You fellows have Elkhunter all wrong, that load is for shooting Kangaroo rats thats way to weak for rabbits.

He's a stunt shooter, so he kinda thrives on the *underpowered* aspect.

He'll learn his lesson one day, hope it isn't too painful....

54g h414, 165g bullet, printed 5/8" in a 43 2 groove bbl, good on any N American game

My favorite is 52 gr/IMR 4064 with about any good 150 gr bullet. Really shoots well in my ‘03 sporter with original barrel.

In fact, I have yet to see a 30/06 rifle that shot anything well not shoot well with this load, out of over 25 different rifles over 50 years.

Used the same load for years very accurate. MB
