So I went to a buddies place and he is going through his late father in-laws stuff and has the above mentioned rifle. It is stamped made in the USA and stamped US Property. How collectible are these and yes all the serial No match. I’ll see if I can get some photos posted later.

Well, there was a bazillion made by Savage.
How do I identify the maker? I could not find a mfr stamp anywhere.
What WTF posted, Savage made a bazillion of them and a significant portion of that production is sitting on the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean courtesy of Nazi torpedos. Savage stamped a large "S" on the U.S. Property Enfields that were made under "Lend Lease".
Jeff, how many do you figure they lost in sunk cargo ships? Mb
Ask Steve.

At least a couple hundred thousand.
Savage produced 1.2 million No 4 rifles for Britain between July 1941 and August 1944 (or thereabouts). That made them the single largest producer of No 4 rifles. It is a sure thing some of those rifles went to the bottom of the sea but a very large number made it over there.

I regularly see these guns at gun shows so a fair number made it back to their country of origin. I have two so marked rifles- one with the ladder rear sight and another with the dual aperture. I've owned a couple others but sold them as they had been Bubba'd up.

Last year I saw prices at gunshows in the $500+ range though they weren't selling. Today, I couldn't guess at a price as the Chinese flu shut everything down and guns such as these are in a flux. I expect prices to come back out in the same price range once the shows get going.

Dont need a mfr stamp. All of the "US PROPERTY" #4s were made by Savage
Savage also manufactured spike bayonets for their no 4's. Identified by a "S" in a square.

Another interesting factoid attached to your friend's Savage/Enfield is that it was made at the Stevens factory in Chicopee Falls, Mass rather than the Savage Mecca (at that time) in Utica, NY.
