Do you have better pictures of the action? For instance a close up of the left hand side.

Right off hand I would say it's an FN action just by your description.

It has no markings on the left side of the action. Only proof stamps and 243 on the barrel Also says chrome vanadium steel on the barrel. Not much more
Posted By: MTDan Re: Custom Commercial Mauser - 06/21/21
Definitely looks like an FN commercial action

Gotcha.

Still think it's an FN action.
Posted By: Swampokie Re: Custom Commercial Mauser - 06/22/21
I will add that it has engraved trigger guard and floorplate with no notch in the receiver for stripper clips.
I know nothing about mausers and it was sold to me advertised as likely an early Parker hale. I know you Mauser guys have a lot of knowledge about the guns. So I thought maybe y’all could help out a novice

Any ideas on value of the gun? Sorry for the bad pix.
It’s a fn deluxe scroll engraved Mauser.

It might have an FN Deluxe bottom metal unit, but that receiver says Dumoulin right on it. It’s not an FN.

That being said it’s a nice rifle and you could probably get $5-700 depending upon the barrel details and if you come across someone who really wants it.

Yeah, the Dumoulin is mine and I used it for an example for Swampokie.
Swampokie in an hour or so I will post some pictures of my Parker Hale Mauser. Then we can compare the two rifles.

IDK, it's the Varmint model and it has the Weatherby-ish stock. I'm guessing it was made in the late 1960's or early 1970's.

Mine does not have the "chrome vanadium steel" on it, nor the fancy engraving on the floorplate or trigger guard.

Pretty good chance that's it is a Parker Hale and IIRC they were built with the Spanish(?) Santa Barbra action.

Thank u sir. Can’t wait to send a few downrange.
Posted By: MTDan Re: Custom Commercial Mauser - 06/24/21
100% certain that's an FN "supreme" action. It has Belgian proof marks and the "chrome vanadium steel" was an FN marking used in that period. FN did not put its crest on the receiver ring on all rifles, especially late model rifles like yours.

All Santa Barbara actions ( that I've seen) are marked "Spain" on the underside. They also have a different shaped safety.

It looks like an FN to me as well. I have owned many and still have half dozen barreled actions squirreled away

One of my FN commercial Mausers. Not a Supreme, but I had been looking for the big logo, undrilled, for a long time. These are fine rifles, and a real bargain for the build quality. I am a huge fan. If you decide to sell, keep me in mind.

That's a beauty! I've already got more than enough for a couple of lifetimes, but I'd still snap that one up

There are worse habits to have. 👍🏻
Swampokie, what's your plan with this rifle? If it was mine I'd shoot and tune on it till I was satisfied and then wear the barrel out. Deja vue, nostalgia whatever but you just can't get a new rifle with the quality of that these days without spending a pile. It's greatest value is in knowing it is second to none in use. Lucky you. I bought 10 of the Dumoulin Mauser actions from Sarco, and they have problems:
1) Scope mount as I have said before These bases can be made by S46 and S54, by milling the bottoms flat. The holes are already at 0.860" and 0.504". The thicknesses are already close, but this process makes them equal. The holes and countersinks are already correct, making this process low effort and low risk of an error.
2) Safety...the safety should push back the firing pin 0.030". If OTOH the firing pin falls onto the safety when the trigger is pulled.... the gun will fire when the safety if turned off.
3) Sharp edges

My 1950 FN Mauser was a great rifle after I restocked and rebarreled it.

The Parker Hale take off barrels I got appear to be hand lapped.
Posted By: Pappy348 Re: Custom Commercial Mauser - 07/05/21
Every FN I’ve owned with the factory barrel has had Chrome Vanadium Steel marked on it. One was apparently shortened to eliminate the ramp and turned down a bit to lighten it, removing that marking.
Posted By: Swampokie Re: Custom Commercial Mauser - 07/06/21
Ive shot it a few times but i havent tried many loads for it. Seems to shoot well with the federal fusion 95 grain tho.
