Okay I’ve asked this here before about a Kar98a with a 220 swift barrel and I know that was a small ring large thread mauser action. Now I have a Mexican mauser small ring but with the three locking lug design and I’ve seen some float by on gunbroker that have been rebarreled to 22-250. Could this Mexican be rebarreled to 220 swift? I figured the pressures are similar and I don’t reload to maximum anyway I tend to stay near the bottom.

Yes, it can. There may be a feed issue with the semi-rimmed case. I have seen it done before, so it can be done. Let me know how it works out as I have a 9" twist 22 heavy that I think I'm gonna do in 220 Swift for the Mauser.

I had a bull barrel back in the day on a Belgium receiver but it was too heavy for what I needed it for. I’ll have to see who can make me a barrel I think Shaw can but when you select the small ring barrels for either the Swedish or the Turkish small thread large rings they say to use low pressure cartridges only. Who knows we will see.

Feeding isn't bad, as long as you make a slanted box. Otherwise, you either load single shot or load the magazine such that the rim of the cartridge on top is ahead of the rim on the cartridge below it, a real pain.

I also recently built a 7" twist .22-250 AI on a SR Mexican.

See I had thought of a that for a rifle, either a Peruvian, a Argentine, or a Portuguese but I couldn’t find just an action for a decent price. I think I’m going to sell off my S&W 1500 and then keep an eye out for actions.

Sadly, decent actions are getting harder to find.

I forgot, I have another little Mexican chambered in .22-250 with a 14" twist. Shoots lights out. It was barreled using a Model 70 take off barrel.

Oh don’t I know it, occasionally I find a deal of something I have been wanting but that’s far a few between. I sold a lot of actions on here that I could of used but to me I already had the German actions so I guess I’m a way I didn’t want another one. Everyone drools over the ww2 actions but to me I wanted the more unique ones. Hence how I ended up with a Peruvian .243

Bart, pretty much what a Siamese looks like, slanted at front and rear. Don't have that rifle handy right now but I think I have an FN .220 box laying around I might be able to snap a pic of.

I know if your heart is set on a swift, go for it. I had one of my 22-250’s reamed out to 22-250AI. Basically the same case capacity as the Swift.

Brass is cheaper and much easier to find.
Brass lasts longer.
Barrel (throats) don’t erode as fast.

My 22-250AI is one of my most accurate rifles.

It’s an option.

Bart, still don't have an actual picture but, here's a Siamese. Now imagine a std 98 unit but with the sloped front and rear inside that std unit. I just tigged a new front and rear insert in place.

I didn’t have to alter the mag box at all on my first .220 swift Mauser. I just headspace the barrel stacked the bullets so that the rims were in front of each other and it fed and extracted just fine actually.
