Hello all.

Over the weekend I picked up what I hope is a good deal, a 30-06 DMW in a nice stock with a Loopy M8 4X (1977 vintage) for $300.

I have tried to do some proof mark and SN research and quickly discovered there is a lot out there?

I tried to get the pics on this post but it told me they were the wrong size but the image gallery took them, so I made a image gallery of pics in the image gallery section under " DMW assistance." Included are pics of the rifle and plenty of proof marks, stamps, etc form the side of the action, bottom of action, follower, bolt, screws, etc.

Could anyone please help me with some info on this one? Also, and this may be the deciding factor in keeping it or not (I can return it), when the new barrel was installed they didn't modify the mag box/rails/follower for it, so with 30-06 it can only hold one in the mag as others will gun up the works. It feeds 7x57 rounds just fine...

Thanks for your reply, I just posted more pics shoeing the action and bottom on the image gallery. The bottom in my gallery is not as nice as the bottom under your handle....

Do you know what country DWM made your rifle for?

The most common DWM large ring military Mausers are the 1908 made for Brazil in 7x57 and the 1909 made for Argentina in 7.65x53.

A lot of 1909 Argentine Mausers were rechambered to 30-06 from the original 7.65x53, so the bores are a bit, 0.03", oversize.

No, I’m not sure about the country, I am hoping some of the standings may tell that.

Looks like an 09 trigger guard.

How much too long is the 30-06 cartridge to bind in the mag box (OAL)?
What bullet weight

If the parts with markings are original to the receiver then it was a 1909 Argentine.

Thanks for your reply - those were some old dummy rounds rolling around in the desk. I just stacked and fed 4 factory rounds with no problems.

If you like Mausers and it functions and shoots with reasonable accuracy don't see how you can go wrong for $300.

After looking at the photos, unless there's a serious unseen flaw, "don't see how you can go wrong for $300."

The magazine box can be lengthened to accomodate M2 Ball 30-06 ammunition. You may find that typical hunting ammo is shorter and will stack and feed just fine.

If you do not snaffle it you would be a mug.

There were two other South American Mausers that had a hinged trigger guard.
Peruvian, and a Paraguayan model. Pages 189 , 190 & 191 for the Paraguayan Mauser. Ludwig Olson's book on Mausers.
Yours appears to be an Argentine though.
And for $300, you stole it......

It’s been to the range a couple of times, holding 1.2”-1.5 for both the old Weatherby 165 BTSP and the Federal Power Shok 150.
I spoke with Mike Merker and May take it up to him for a shorter LOP, recoil pad, and bedding job.
