I recently sold a nice one with a solid matter rib, which I much prefer to a VR. I never could shoot a pump, but I still have an 870 corncob 16ga. I'll probably be listing it soon.
The answer as to why to put it at the top is clear to me: Because when sized to a proper frame with proper loads, it's the best thing ever devised for Western upland bird hunting.
It is placed at the top so we 16 gauge shooters, otherwise known as the the enlightened, can look haughtily down our noses at the unwashed masses of the shotgun world.

Pre lead ban, a 16 worked pretty darn good on decoyed ducks too. Finding this forum will make the AYA happy.
Wow..... there is always one. Maybe it’s at the top because it was the last added group. Or maybe we 16 gauge guys don’t really care about all your sissy topics. If it not about loading or shooting who cares.
Look at your local newspaper classifieds, the numerical adds are always listed before the alphabetical adds. 16ga. is my go to for small game, whats not to like.
