My cousin in Texas wants me to make him up some 41 magnum loads. I don’t have his 4 inch 41 to test them in. He wants to use the gun on pigs.

Without having the gun in front of me what would you guys load for him. I have h110, aa9, Allianz mp300, 2400, titegroup

I’d think you want to be able to penetrate through the pig’s shoulder to the vitals. As such, I’d recommend a heavy hard cast bullet with a wide nose (meplat). I have used Cast Performance 265 gr hard cast bullets as close quarters grizzly protection; it would likely do what your cousin wants. I use this load in a couple Smith and Wesson Model 57 (no dash) revolvers.

My favorite load is 20 gr/296 (same as H110), 265 gr Cast Performance hard cast bullet, Federal magnum large pistol primer, new Starline brass. I use a very firm roll crimp. It is very accurate in my guns, in the 4” gun it clocks at 1190 fps.

Another load I like a lot with 215 gr had cast semi wadcutters is 17.5 gr/2400, Federal standard large pistol primer, Starline brass, heavy roll crimp. I get 1240 fps with this one in the 4” gun.

Both of these loads are very accurate in my guns, no
pressure signs.

H-110 is what i use.

For cast as well as jacketed bullets, because it works.

Alright guys. All that I could find locally was some 210 hornady flat point bullets and some 220 grain Speer soft points. Anyone shoot these?

Your cousin it looks like.

210 grain hornady FLAT point? Not hollow point? Didn't know they made such a thing. Are they a silhouette bullet? If so you won't get expansion but you should get good penetration. If they are the HPs they are still pretty decent bullets.

The Speer 220s would be their old 3/4 jacket SWC soft point I think. I had some of those in .44 and the cores and jackets separated.

Depending on how many of each you have you might need to load up both for him. I think of the powders you list, H110 would be my my choice. (I used to shoot Win 296.) #9 would be 2nd choice.

Thanks fellows. I loaded up some at 15.7 aa9 with 210 and 220 grainers

That should work for pigs just fine!

Try to get us some pictures if you can. Of dead pigs. Be Well, RZ.

20.5 H110 with a 210 XTP

Found recoil a bit more pleasant without beating the gun as hard with 22.0 grains.......accurate as well with good velocity.

BACON.

79 - re: FP -

The Rem 210 JSP is a nice bullet, has a FP. It and the XTP are my 'Go to' choices.

110/296 is a great powder for magnum performance.

Any of those except TiteGroup would be great. In a 4" 2400 might give a bit less blast and flame.

Nothing wrong with TiteGroup.
Posted By: Henryseale Re: 41 magnum of - 03/22/21
Titegroup is my go to powder for .380 and 9mm. I also use it some in .38 Spl along with Universal, just depends on what I have in the powder measure at the time. H-110 and 2400 are my go to powders for .357 and they work well in .44 Mag. I don't load for .41 Mag, but I do for .44 Mag. I have heard a fellow claim good results with loading Titegroup in .44 Mag, but I've never tried it. I do have load data for it. Seems like an an awful lot of empty case space in a .44 using Titegroup. Data I have seen does not specify it, but I'm thinking maybe best using a magnum primer to compensate for all that empty case space? Anyone have thoughts about this?

Yeah, I should have worded that differently. TiteGroup works, it just won't reach max velocity, which may or may not be important to the OP.

Good load, but a shame that you left a full grain of powder on the table with the 210 XTP. 16.8-17 with the 210 XTP gives 1400 out of a 6.5” Blackhawk. Awesome deer medicine.

What's a guy who doesn't handload doing with a .41 magnum? Tell your cousin to give you the .41 magnum and buy himself a .44 so he can buy ammo at Walmart (in normal times.)

Like a few fps will make any difference in terminal results. Another armchair hunter....shame!

Yes you are. And it is a shame that the fire has people like you who make comments as if knowledgeable about something which you are not. Just another I don’t know jack sh*t, but will open my pie hole to let the azz gas out. GFY and that’s not meant to be kind.
