What are your favorite pistol primers and why? I have a lot of primers and don't shoot as much as I used to. I've been supplying friends and and getting rid of some. I've always preferred CCI for rifle but I've never really had a preference for pistol.

I'm wondering which ones to keep. I've got a newer case of Federal gold medal match large pistol I bought only a year ago. I've thought of keeping it for myself since they are the newest. I mostly have CCI, and then Federal, then some Winchester, and a few thousand Remington.

Any I can get.

Ive not noticed any difference in any I've used.

I try to use magnum or WLPs fow H110 based on book recommendation. But Ive no idea what would actually happen if I didn't.
I always use CCI for rifle and winchester for pistol. I have tried different primers, love the BR-2 and BR-4 for rifle and CCI 450 for AR-15
Federal in my revolvers with lite triggers. CCI In everything else. Hasbeen

I loved the old wichester primers. Now use Fedral is my preferred.

I buy CCI because they are usually on the shelf in my area but I have shot many different primers over the years in handguns and I never developed a preference.

Federal, only cause that’s what was available and I bought many several years ago.
I like CCI 500 in all my non magnum pistol loads. I use WSPM or WLPM with revolves that require a magnum primer.

I have no rational for it other than that is what is regularly available to me. And, I have made it a practice to buy what is available when it is available rather that making a mad rush to scarf up everything I can find when things are hard to find.

Now the real reason. I purchased a Lee Hand Priming Tool over 25 years ago. The instructions that came with it said to use CCI or Winchester Primers with the tool. I still use that hand primer. I have literally loaded 1,000s of rounds with it - I plan on using it for the rest of my shooting/handloading life - therefore, I still follow the directions.

In your case, I would just shoot or give away older stock, and settle in your mind what you want to use - then buy/date/rotate as things come available. KISS has kept me supplied since the Clinton treachery of the 90s. I have never been without powder, primer, or bullets in over 30 years.

I've liked CCI primers for many years and have used their magnum primers in my .357 and .44 magnum loads. I still have a fair supply of them for my magnum loads, but I shoot way more standard loads that with the shortage of primers I shoot anything that I can find, which has been Winchester and Federal large pistol primers for my .44 Spl and .45 acp loads, and Winchester and Federal small pistol primers for my .38 Spl and 9 mm Luger loads until I ran out of them and now load them with Federal small rifle primers. I've always bought all of my rifle and pistol primers in lots of 1,000, and my shotgun primers in lots of 5,000.
I'll settle for anything now

I like the gold colored Win or Rem's

"In stock" grin I discovered that I have way more magnum pistol primers (mostly CCI 350) than standard. I hadn't loaded full power H 110/ Win 296 loads in years but I sure am now. Midsouth had H 110 in stock last week and I ordered 5 more pounds.
I have a very old Savage 1907 .32acp, pretty light striker fall, and I'd prefer not to tinker with the striker spring if I don't have to. If you guys were to recommend a small pistol primer with the softest/thinnest cup material....what would be your recommendation?

I’m with Mannlicher, down to my last 1000 of each. I would by any brand and would learn to like them.

No first hand experience but I've read that Federal primers are preferred for revolvers that have been tuned for the lightest possible trigger.
Federal is supposed to be the most sensitive primers on the market. Finding them may be an issue. Finding any primers may be an issue for that matter. Best of luck to you.

Beggars can’t be choosers.

That said, I have used more Fed than anything else, especially back in my cowboy action days. I bought a bunch, still have a good supply.

They work.

When I had 44mag and 45acp, I used WLP.

For my 9mm and 38/357mag, I used CCI but have had light primer striker on my revolver so I got some WSP. I will change back the springs on my Ruger GP100 to their original and give CCI's another try.

Question for you guys? With this current primer shortage, are any of you thinking of just buy small rifle primers and using them in both your rifles and handguns? This way you standardize on one type of primer.

Or is it better, just to stick with the proper primer for each and just wait out this shortage?

Wolf will sell you a spring kit for that pistol for not much money.
