I regularly use Titegroup for .380, 9 MM, and often .38 Spl. I am thinking of trying it in .44 Mag and .45 Colt. That seems like an awfully lot of empty case space, so I'm wondering if I should use magnum primers to get a good ignition? The loading manuals I have checked do not specify magnum primers. Anyone have experience with Titegroup in .44 Mag and .45 Colt?

I load .45 Colt, both mild loads and "strong action only" with Winchester Large Pistol primers. Right on the box it says for both standard and magnum loads.

I've never had any ignition issues when using them.

Titegroup is my most loaded powder these days. From 32H&R and 9mm to 45Colt.with standard loads, 850-900 fps.
It ignites readily with standard primers.

.45 Colt+ Federal Large Pistol Primers(150M)+Titegroup+250gr. XTP works great!

Yep. Awesome powder from my 32 H&R's through the 475 and 500 Linebaughs.

I use Titegroup in 32auto, 9mm, 38 special, 357 mag, 41 mag, 45 acp and 45 colt. All with standard CCI small and large pistol primers. Titegroup is a very versatile powder that's hard to beat. Only use magnum primers with H-110 but since I started using AA-9 with my heavy magnum loads, dont use any magnum pistol primers anymore.

I've never used anything but standard primers with Titegroup. Had nothing but good results with it.

Most accurate powder I've used in a Blackhawk .45 Colt - with Winchester LPP.

Another powder I have not used, but that is going to change. rgrx1276 gifted me with most of a 4# can, and I as soon as my 125 grain Hornady bullets show up this week, I am going to load up the 200 prepped 357 Magnum cases I have ready to go. I primed the cases with Winchester SP magnum primers.

It works just fine for subsonic .223 loads.
And with the bolt slamming home I imagine most of the powder is tossed against the back of the projectile...
.44 mag might have a bit more girth, but I don't imagine that inside length is any longer than a .223.

Titegroup is a fairly fast-burning powder and may not be the best choice in the 44 Magnum and 45 Colt, but standard primers are plenty adequate to ignite a load using Titegroup. Naturally we should use the primer listed in the load data whenever possible. However, if you only have Titegroup and magnum large pistol primers, you might think of calling Hodgdon for their recommended adjusted load. The supply chain is a problem and they may have a bit of experience in doing a "work-around".

My 44 mags love a light load of Titegroup & 240-255 grain cast bullets. 7 grains if I remember correctly.
