Got some stuff from my late Uncles estate today. About 13lbs of powder, lots of primers, bullets etc. All the powder seems to be ok. No strong odors, off color etc.

Take look at that powder in steel cans before you plan on using it. I bought a box of 8 or so different powders at a yard sale a couple months ago. A steel can of IMR4895(looked like it had been unopened) passed the smell test , but when I got home and poured it out, it had a rusty dust in it. It will be used for lawn fertilizer. cry All the other powders are in plastic and look and smell fine.

Yep..... I just had to throw away about 1/2 can (metal can) of IMR 4227! Since I started hand loading in 1967 this was my first time to throw away powder.......it was traumatizing! 🤬 memtb

Should I pour them into a clean glass jar and swirl them around to check?. This can of SR7625 looks clean to me.

I just poured some out in the pan I use on my scale. It was very obvious.

Good advice. I ran into some IMR4350 a few months ago that had the red dust in it. I dumped it on the lawn..

Ran some loads with the SR7625 in the 4lb metal can. I sure hate they discontinued this powder. Burns clean and meters like a dream.
I think this remaining powder is still okay. ES 48 SD 17

6.0grs shows to be a max load with a chamber pressure of 17,000 PSI
5.5grs averaged 772fps with a coated lead bullet.

These were through my Glock 41

Throwing old powder on the lawn is sooooooooooooooooo boring. Instead, put it on the driveway in a long squiggly line and light one end.
You'll be left with a semi-permanent mark to remind you of the good times you had!

Use it for fire ant beds. 😁
