Today I loaded up some 357 with S&S 158gr SWC hitek coated bullets with 7.0 gr of unique. Accuracy was ok at best and I choked on the smoke! What powder is going to be better for me to push this bullet around 1200 fps in a 586 4" smith and a 4-5/8" blackhawk without all the smoke I got today.

H-110/296, 2400 or Longshot

Oregon Trail 158gr LSWC's with 6.4grs of Unique is my every day load for 357mg.. I use 14.5 grs of 2400 with the same bullets for my heavy load, usually reserved for my GP100..

I never noticed the smoke, so I don't know if 2400 makes less of it.

I use H110 occasionally with jacketed bullets. It needs mag primers.

Alliant claims Sport Pistol will not melt the coatings. But it is pretty fast and I don't believe you can get to 1200 in a 4" safely with it (not sure you can with Unique either).

Nope, not with a 4”. Max load of Accurate 5 or 9 will if using coated hard cast.
