I was going to reload some .45LC and opened a box of Hornady 250gr XTP bullets.. Four of them inside were discolored and the cavities of those were empty!!!! WTH?

I've used Hornady bullets for over 30+ years w/o an issue and have never seen anything like this before.. Anybody else???

No but Hornady CS is very good and will make it right.

What do you mean that the cavities are empty?

Cavities were empty?

You mean no core in the jacket?

I got a reply from Hornady - they asked me to send them a pic - and the above is what I sent.. Haven't gotten a reply re: that pic yet..
Thinking a free box of bullets is in your future
sure looks like they were heated , but never poured.

They sent me a message saying there was going to be a box coming, but I replied saying there was no need to do that - basically just wondering if anyone else had any like that in that particular lot #... I'll see what happens.. smile

This is puzzling, since Hornady doesn’t pour their cores, their bullets are cold swaged around the lead core, so it is doubtful that the bullets could be properly shaped without their cores. Then they’d be tumble polished which would deform the empty jackets.

Looks to me like someone else had the box, melted the lead out of a few bullets for some other use, then stuck the empty jackets back in the box.

The box was new - still had the factory seal....... Just strange.. .
I've received a box of bullets with two different style bullets. But that's a new one, empty jackets. Funny looking things aren't they? Be Well, Rustyzipper.
Just think of the velocity you could get with those!! Maybe 3,000 fps from a 6-inch .357...
Bet they wouldn't overpenetrate either.
