We will be making our yearly pilgrimage to the Waldport area this weekend and I would love to try some fishing in the surf or in the various bays. I would really appreciate any suggestions members may have or if somebody is willing to chat on the phone for a little bit with suggestions I would be very appreciative.
Crabbing is your best bet in the Alsea Bay. If you're after surf perch, head a few miles north to the Curtis Street beach access. I haven't done it, but lots of people fish off the South Jetty in Newport (rock fish, ling cod, etc.). If you need info on what to use, go to the Bayfront in Newport and talk to Randy at Harry's Bait & Tackle.

If you've never done so, go on a charter boat out of either Newport or Depoe Bay. They charge $75.00 - $80.00 for half a day of bottom fishing and a few $$$ more if you want crab. Fin clipped salmon is open on the ocean, but it's pretty slow. If you're real adventurous, they're getting tuna 50+ miles out.
