Bonnet head sharks are fairly easy to catch this time of year using shrimp as bait. We catch them from a public pier at Bradenton, Florida in the Gulf of Mexico. They are great fighters and having a ball catching them. The fillets are quite tasty. But it takes a sturdy and sharp knife to remove the fillets since sharkskin is so tough. But no match for my older Buck model 110. This knife has been very useful to me ever since I bought it in 1976.

Does anyone else have fondness for their Buck 110?

Have several (110'). No sharks but have gutted, skinned, and completely boned elk with no additional sharpening. My technique is to use the edge for cutting flesh. When one approaches bone, use patience and it's only the tip that makes contact.

Envious of what you have available down there. All our water is dry matter at the moment.

Hey Sherwood I have a brother in-law and sister-in-law that live in Bradenton. Nice area. My sister in-law grew up there, my brother in-law (wife’s brother) met her in St. Croix where they both worked for years and then moved back to the states (Bradenton) back in ‘89. Anyway I have fished off that pier before but I never knew bonnets were that desirable for eating.

I have three 110's. The oldest is the second year they were made. The blade looks like a stiletto after skinning so many Deer and Elk etc. I should send it in for a new blade but afraid it would get lost. My Daughter and I hunted with a family up north and my Daughter got a Buck. I was so happy I mail all of them a 110. Now they ask us back every year.

There was just an excellent thread on Bucks on the top board:

https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/13538217/Searchpage/1/Main/918520/Words/%2BBuck+%2Bknives/Search/true/buck-knives#Post13538217

That thread gave me a hankerin for a drop-point 110!

That’s one geckos long lasting knife you’re cutting sharks with that’s awesome!
