Can somebody tell me about PECAR scopes. I have a friend that wants to sell a 4-10 and there is a 3-7 at a shop that I am interested in. Any info on quality and value would be helpful.

Pecar scopes were imported to the U.S. between 1954-1961. Made by Koehler of Germany, these high quality scopes featured an interchangeable reticle which was praised by none other than Jack O'Connor. The two scopes you mentioned are 26mm steel tubes & have the following dimensions; Pecar V-IS 3x7(1959-1961) 12.2" long & 13.0 oz. Pecar V-IIS 4x10(1959-1961) 15.7" long & 15.0 oz.
Depending upon condition, the 3x7 value is $200.00-400.00 and the 4x10 value is $250.00-450.00. I've not seen any as of late for sale on Ebay, This would be a great scope for that period appropriate rifle project. Hope this helps.

Last I checked, they are still making them, so from your description, I do not know if what you saw are "vintage" scopes-though they probably are. There website says they are the "smallest optics maker in the world". If you google Pecar you can find their website.

Pecar scopes are still being made and of VERY high quality,I have a 4-10x45 (its about 6 years old, bought from new) and am very pleased with it,it is everything a Zeiss,S+B,Swaro of comparable mag and i have/had them all, reticule on mine is nice and fat (which i like) and can easily be seen in low light conditions,if you like it and the price is right I`d take it,not sure about the 2-7 though i have no experiance with this scope.

Pecar scopes were used on British and Israeli Enfield sniper rifles for years, first on the .303, then on the 7.62x51 NATO Enfields.

Being a hillbilly, I always wondered how to pronounce Pecar. Is it pecker or pee-car or pa-car? Thanks...Bill.
