Are you just buying one 'cause you don't have one and want to fill out the "herd" or do you have a specific use in mind?

I would probably go with the N frame if you plan to scope it, L frame for iron sights. The reason is the different balance with the full lug vs "not lug" barrel. I waffled for several months on my last purchase. I was weighing S&W 4" N frame vs 6-1/2" N frame vs 6" L frame while also keeping an eye out for a Ruger GP-100 match champion w/ adjustable sights. Instead I kinda "went sideways" and bought the 5" 7-shot 686 from the "3-5-7" series. I really like the balance on the gun. It may get scoped for load work up but in the long run it's going to wear iron sights. That won out. I hope it shoots as good as it looks and feels.

I have allways liked using the 358429 Keith swc in my 38's and 357's . In a k or l frame you can crimp them in the crimp groove but if you want that bullet in 357 cases in a N frame you have to seat so the case edge is in front of the driving band. Don't like that. So this is where the 358156 Thompson bullet comes in either the solid or hollow point version both gas checked. Other than the short cyl length they are the tits.

The 620 would be good choice if one knows how to check out used revolver before buying. Boomer likes two-piece barrel, IL, L-frame as much as devil Holy Water. This should mean more favorable price and longer display in case. The 619 would also be ok, but is probably be harder to locate because at time these were made few would pick big .357 revolver with mid-barrel length having fixed rear sight. Most would buy adjustable sight instead.

My dealer can't get the new 27 so I got a freaking model 629! With the Hillary Hole that I can dabble about with if desperate...

It's basically an N frame 686 in 44 mag.

I'll still be on the look out locally for 38/44's and model 27's and really all things N frame. I just like them.

Just plinking some steel. I had fun. 50, 44 magnum and 50, 44 special cowboy...the cowboy loads were super fun.

I have a 620 I picked up LN when my son worked in a gun store. $350 with the family discount. Say what you will about the new guns, this one’s a keeper. It’s going to get some woods time this Fall with the Fastfire3 on top.

Very nice classic revolvers!

That 5" 27 is a grail gun for me, have the 3.5" and the 6" but still no 5" they are sweet.

They're out there but getting expensive. Happy hunting!
