Can someone give me detailed information as how to distinguish between the mountain rifle and a classic. Remington said the rifle was made in 1990. Thanks Daniel

Mountain Rifle: very slim barrel contour, black fore end tip, cheek piece

Classic: standard sporter contour, no tip, no cheek piece

According to Remington the 7x57 was the Classic in 1981.

Thanks, mathman! I purchased what I thought was the mountain rifle used, early this year for the wife but was told today by a man that I thought would know the difference that I had the classic. But your description of the mountain rifle fits her gun to a T.

I'd say a Classic would be a nice snag too.

Either way put a good bullet on top of a modern load and sharpen the knives.

Here's a picture of a Mountain Rifle. This one happens to be a 7X57 too.

Actually, I think the Mountain Rifle is Remington's Nicest Product... well balanced, attractive etc...

and in a 7 x 57... that chambering was one of the 'pick of the litter' so to speak...

I'd say you're lucky to have one...
