I inherited my late uncles 22 magnum Marlin 57M. Gawd aweful ugly lever action if I ever saw one. But, she's now my baby and she can shoot. And I got now a 22 Magnum. I am stoked! I was using a few 20 year old boxes of plain copper plated cheap stuff just shooting pine cones and cans. Fine for that use. I have never bought 22 Magnum ammo. For the plinking, squirrel shooting that will be fine, but I wanna have a 100 yard coyote gun as well. What's the goods on these jacketed bullets? They didn't have them when I was a kid in the 80's. Are they worth it? I saw some Fiocchi JSP for $10. I won't pay $17 for 22 ammo. What's a good "economy" jacketed 22 Magnum? Hunting accuracy. Don't need to shoot 1 hole groups at 100 yards. And, this gun does not have a serial number. No number what so ever. Not ground away, just doesn't have one.

I can help a bit

1. Just like any rimcire, try different loads. FWIW I've had good luck with plain Jane winchester 40 grain loads and so have others.

2. Federal makes a 50 grain. Load that people like for bigger animals. I've never come across a box though

3. RWS made some extra hot ammo. If you find any you may want to.try it

4. I have used the 34 grain winchester supreme load. Its accurate and fast. I shot a 1/4" thick steel rimfire spinner at 75 yards once and ruined it with a single shot. It mushroomed and dented the plate so deeply that the front got pushed back to be well behind where the back of the plate was. No coyote ribs are going to stand up to that.

Enjoy your rifle.

I've been working with a .22 Mag. barrel for my CZ 455. Overall, it shoots best with the Hornady 30gr. VMax loads. As luck would have it, it's often on sale from various online vendors, for around $11/box. It's usually the least expensive ammo around.

This barrel doesn't much like the 40gr. loads from ANYONE, it's just not a great barrel. I've shot CCI, Winchester, Fiocchi, and maybe another or two. Whatever I can find. Again, it seemed to like the Hornady 30s best, which suits me pretty well, since I bought it to use on prairie dogs, if I can get back out West sometime.

I've tried the Federal 50gr. loads, and it did not excite me, it was crap in this rifle. I've got a fair stockpile of the Hornadys, when they're gone, I think the barrel will go bye-bye, too.

I like the .17 HMR more better.
