Our local FF's have a good system w/ huge support and frequent rotations on big jobs. When I was w/ Metro SAR we would have tryouts in July w/ a 5 mile uphill deathmarch w/ 40 lb. packs as a gutcheck. Most decided that this was not the glamour they sought.

I drew a depradation elk tag that opens Aug. 1 at about 5500' ASL, shouldn't get much hotter then 90*.

I could do that hike. But wouldn't be so happy.

Wish we had tons of reliable turnout here. Volunteer is what it is though. On a typical house fire I"m on my feet and in gear probably close to 3 hours. Thats not easy for me when its hot. I finally get to the point I just can't go anymore. We have turnout, but mostly the extras are ones that come only when it sounds exciting and you can't trust those ones that show up 10 times a year to safely do a damn thing...

You have some great country and good weather to boot. Enjoyed all my times in WI and wandered over your direction a few times.

3 hours in your heat is Ironman stuff. Our guys rotate every air tank and go into an a shaded area with fans and cold water. Overhaul is gently paced usually there are plenty of hands. All are full time paid. Las Vegas is mostly new style construction with extremely strict fire codes due to the MGM fire. Great job if you like showering w/ a bunch of guysgrin and getting paid to work out.

It's 68 today. LOL.

We don't have much for hot weather usually. Last weekend it was 97. It's rare for it to be that hot for more than a week at a crack. Then it storms and cools back down. August is hot during the day but the nights start to cool off quickly past mid-August.
