Back around 1964, my Father's infantry company from WWII sponsored a tour of some of the locations where they fought in Europe. I was a dumb kid of 15 and my Father wanted me to go with him, which I though would be fantastic. After reflection, my Father said "that wasn't the best time of my life" and the trip was off. Most who knew my Dad never had any idea of what he had done in the war and he would never talk about it. Common I suppose.

Lots of unstable ordnance just waiting to go off. But if you do go pick me up a case of 8x57 mm. Thanks !!

Yeah, I would be a bit skeered digging up some of those mortar rounds even though they are not technically armed. I've seen some of that surplus 7.62x54 ammo on dealers' tables at gunshows, except the stuff in the pics is in better condition...

Dan Carlin, who does a podcast called "hardcore history" has a series about the eastern front. "Ghosts of the Ostfront" I haven't listened to that particular series, but I've really liked the few I have listened to. Seems some of you guys might want to check it out.

You could stage an insurgency just with the UXO laying out there.

Wow...very cool. I could while away the hours poking around history's trash heap and never get bored. Wondering about the stories behind every find. Like why were some of the mortar cases only missing one or two mortars or why did the guy bring his pet boar out in the field with him? How stable are the grenades, mortars, land mines and artillery shells?...... So many questions. 😉
Thanks for posting this, I love this kind of stuff.

Couple of other things come to mind. Please tell me that's some kind of pressure cooker and not an anti-tank mine. I saw this one for sale on gunbroker with the description "Some honest wear. Doesn't look like it's been fired much..."

I wonder what was the deal with the one tank , look like it had been converted to a smoker, with all the racks on the inside?
