I would grab the credit card for another $ 100, and buy a Meopta Meopro.

Burris FourX 1.5-6 or Fullfield II in your choice of flavors. I have the FourX and other Burris scopes. Bulletproof. Call Doug.

I should have been more clear, at least 6X on the high end. A 3-9 would be fine.

Likewise, 1.5-6, 2-7, 2ish-8, 2ish-10 are also all fine formats.

Sorry, I should make sure to lay out the parameters clearly.

It's just a tad over your budget but I'd scrape up a few extra dinero and get the Leupold VX-3i 1.5-5x20 with the German #4 reticle. That would be the cat's azz for an eastern whitetail scope.

I have the older Vari-X III 1.5-5x20 with the heavy duplex on a Marlin 336C in 30-30 and it's perfect for the eastern piney woods.

Or a Redfield 2-7x33. That would work nicely, too. (They are made by Leupold.)

They had to be cute, and spell it out as a "FOUR X".

Many of you took advantage of the Burris deal I pointed out some time back and know how big a fan I am - BUT....I would give this Weaver a VERY serious look.

The one thing it has over the Burris is the adjustments. While the Burris (or Leupold for that matter) are accurate enough they are not as 'precise' feeling. I really like SOLID clicks. Now, it lists at $100 more than the E1 illuminated I bought but that deal is gone. This is still well inside the budget of the OP and has the power range being sought. Not oversized. Good looking scope too.

Matches claims that Weaver weighs 27 ounces. Seems unlikely.

That Weaver would look mighty fine sitting on top of my old Remington 788 with the custom E.C. Bishop and Son stock in 6mm Rem.

Agree.

When they were closing them out a few years ago at $280 or even less, I bought several. To me, that was the best rifle scope deal ever.

I have a like new one I'd sell you for that. Have box and paperwork. Took it out of the box, mounted in Talley Lightweights on my 6.5 Creedmoor and have shot around 50 rounds since mounting it.
