I wanted to share the final results of this unique build. DPCD is the master gunsmith for the barrel and action work. Started life as a stripped Siamese Mauser action I picked up on the cheap. DPCD took on the challenge of trying to turn this into a 500 Smith and Wesson Mag bolt action rifle and I would call it a success. The gun is throwing 385gr Maker at 1825 fps with an 18" Douglas barrel. The theme for this gun as you can see was a safari classic look. The wood I finished and inlet/bed myself with tru oil on a fancy grade myrtle.

Those decelerator recoil pads really do wonders but the recoil is not bad at all. No more than say a 3006 maybe 30-30 even. Bit more pop that push. Think slug gun vs rifle.

I ask cuz I'm thinking about building something on a .460S&W. More than likely I'd use a single shot action of some kind. Avoid feeding issues.

I have a 45 Raptor on a 700 action. That is the rim less version of the 460 SW and the recoil is significantly less than this 500 SW.

Do you have a good supplier of brass for that .45 Raptor? That seems like a pretty slick idea for a bolt gun.

Starline makes the 45 raptor brass and they made batch late last year so it is floating around out there. Starline has it direct right now and I got more recently in 100rd bags from Crate Holdings

That is beautiful. Definitely a handy looking setup. Would be a fun hog hunting rifle.
