I would like to point out that the one aspect not dealt with in this review is the durabilty of each optic. Clearly this would have to go to the Zeiss as the first rainstorm will destroy the paper towel tube.
A potential alternate (though admittedly a bit heavier and slightly more expensive than the paper towel tube) would be a short peice of PVC pipe. Careful searching might even turn up one with an outside diameter of 1" which would allow its use with standard rings.
