My intended point was that the 250-3000 has been a reloader's cartridge for most of the nearly fifty years that I've been shooting it, so your friend's decision to embrace it should have come with the understanding that factory ammo might not be an easy fine.

A friend of mine has a couple dozen of boxes of Winchester/Olin 100 grain Silvertip ammo from the late-1970s, or early 1980s, shortly after Winchester/Olin switched from yellow to white boxes. I doubt that it is cheap, but he may be willing to sell some of it. If you think that your friend might be interest, PM me and I'll ask my friend.
