12, The .300 is my favorite big game caliber. Have been shooting my old 700 since the 70's.. It is now on its 3rd barrel, and still shooting great.. I should count up the big game it has taken.. I am certain well over 100 head.. In the days before range finders and turrets it kept our house in meat for many winters.. Now I have a second one.. Use it for very open hunting.. Used in in Pa. to watch old strip mines..
The shots were long, and little time to shoot.. It is the best I have tried for this kind of shooting..

Like you I have shot deer with .338, 340, and 45-70.. None with my .375 but have used it on antelope.. Plus have shot deer with most of the common calibers from the Hornet right on up.. Shoot straight and hope you get a big one..
