connect the factory ring lower half to the slot in the block, tighten the screw, and ... whaddya mean that's not what you meant?
I don't recall having any issues with eye relief requiring extension rings on a #1 though it seems like quite a few people have. A semi heavy barreled single shot isn't the right choice for jumping jackrabbits in the sage so big FOV isn't real necessary.
... I'd go with a Leupold 6.5-20X. It'd be suitable for pretty near anything I'd use that rifle for. Plus it's long enough that if you need to shift it a bit to adjust eye relief, it'll work.
