I like the Leupold VX-3i in 2.5-8 which gives you a bit better optics at the same weight as your VX2. I agree with the above that it can be a mistake to try to cut too much weight in your optics. The excellent Leupold 6x42 weighs a couple ounces more than the 2.5-8. See if the bottom metal is light, or you can go to a blind magazine floor. Get a 3 oz. nylon strap instead of a leather sling weighing over twice as much. Can you get light scope mounts like Talley?
