The finer grades of Scotchbrite i.e. grey or white are not more abraisive than steel wool. Acetone is the best at removing Loctite, if the Loctite is stubborn you can warm the surface just a little before applying. A popsicle stick or the edge of an old credit card will allow you to scrape the surface clean.
