I agree with ajmorell. I have a '97 TJ rag top and it is definitely an unpleasant loud experience doing 70 down the freeway. The short wheelbase tends to make the steering a bit squirrelly also, especially on a lifted jeep.
Check the control arms for wear, depending on the brand of lift kit the rubber bushings may be shot with that mileage and that will also lead to steering slop.
Has fuel pump ever been replaced?
It's a lot of fun dropping the fuel tank to get to the pump and filter.
That being said, off-road they are a blast.
