The experiance I have had with Match Kings have been VERY positive on game up to and including elk.

I will admit, the bore diameter was bigger though on most of them. I used the large 30 cal mags like the 30/378 with 200 and 220 gr MKs and the 338 300 gr in my 338/416 Rugby Imp on most of them.
About 13 yrs ago I did get an elk with my 7mm/300 Weatherby with 168 gr Match kings coming out of that barrel at 3250 fps. I still take that rifle with me to Colorado as a carry rifle. At 10 Lbs and a 29 1/2" barrel it still shoots very well.
I always got good expansion at longrange with the MK bullets on thin skinned big game such as Whitetail and Mule deer and elk. They always held together and NEVER blew up on a shoulder. They always penitrated at least ONE shoulder and most times both when hit in that area.

I think you will be happy with your choice of the 7mm Mag for deer and an occasional elk using the 168 gr Match King.
Later and good hunting.
