I remember when Christiaan Bernard did the 1st heart transplant in South Africa in the late 60's. Everyone said he was nuts and it shouldn't be allowed.The recipient was all but dead anyway and readily volunteered. He lived about 2 to 3 weeks before dying from pneumonia from his lack of immunity to everything. The heart was working fine when he died.

Thousands of successful heart transplants have been done since then, almost becoming routine. I can't say that a head transplant will ever be even close to routine, but we won't find out until they try.
