Had to take Wifey to the Bed Bath and Beyond store a couple of weeks ago. Much to my chagrin she's addicted to cooking shows. ( I absolutely hate cooking shows). Anyway the purpose of the visit was for this thing that looks like a hurdy gurdy that cuts different vegetables Into spirals etc.

So I picked a mess of straight neck yellow and zucchini squash this morning out of the garden. This evening I cut some fresh basil, oregano, and thyme out of the herb nook.

I took a whole onion chopped it. A tablespoon of minced garlic, about 6 slices of pancetta chopped all this up and added 1/2 pound of elk hamburger. Simmered for a while. Added a jar of spagetti sauce. When the sauce had stewed a while I added some spiral cut zucchini and straight necks and let it simmer in the cast iron stove top Dutch oven.

It was really delicious. Topped with the grated Parmesan. We ate the whole pot.

The little spiral cutter thing is pretty nice. It has a suction cup so you can attach it to a counter top for use. Beats me what brand it is. I think it was about $25. A really nice and convenient way to prep squash. Gonna try it next in an Alfredo sauce with sautéed shrimp!
