Had lots of those. Heelers seem to be very prone to those lumps. We had the vet check them at every visit because both my old heelers had both soft lumps and firm ones. The vet said we could pay to biopsy them but that they are almost always harmless fat tumors. Vet advised removing them only if they grow large enough to interfere with the dogs activity. My wife believed our dogs were too old for surgery - that the risk of not waking up from anesthesia was greater than the harm from the tumors.
