I recently bought my 9 yo daughter a Bear Apprentice III. She wants to start 4H Archery this year. I don't think the Apprentice is made anymore and is replaced by the Cruzer, but lots are new ones on ebay. 200-250.00 for package and arrows. Very adjustable in poundage and draw weight. I think it weighs 2.6 or 2.8 lbs. and is 28" axle to axle.It is a little lighter than the Mathews Mission. I have not been into archery for 10-12 years and lots of advancements have been made, but the little bow impresses me. Alot better quality than the bow I had a kid/teenager.

My daughter is small framed. On her draw length, the lowest draw weight is about 12-13lbs. One thing you have to be careful about the wide range adjustable bows is the draw weight is advertised as say 12-45 lbs, but in reality it is 12lbs with a 17 inch draw length. Same limb adjustment, but in a 24" draw length may be 25lbs. Does that make sense? I did not realize this when I brought the bow, but it worked out for my daughter.

I hope you find something he likes.
