Had a black schnauzer dog that came from a lineage that included a show dog named "Midnight" named for his dark coat. So My dog's registered name became "Midnights Dark Legacy". Catchy double meaning huh?
But I called her Squirtt (with two t's) because it was easier to yell from the front porch of the single wide while drinking a beer and smoking a cigarette.
It's your dog, name her what they want but call her you want.
